Q: What is the “Special Risk Class”?
A: This class is for employees in high-risk professions, including firefighters, law enforcement officers, and correctional officers. It has a higher percentage multiplier (3%) and earlier retirement eligibility than the Regular Class.
Q: What is Normal Retirement for the Special Risk Class?
A: Normal retirement is reached at 25 years of service at any age, or at age 55 with at least 8 years of service. For members enrolled after July 1, 2011, it’s 30 years of service or age 60.
Q: Does this calculator include DROP?
A: No, this tool calculates your straight pension benefit. The Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) is a separate, complex program. This calculator gives you the base pension amount that your DROP participation would be based on.
